Criminally Underrated Comedies

These comedies don’t get enough attention, the streaming algorithm, PR, and marketing bamboozled them. I love comedy and I just wish these shows had more episodes. On the bright side, they all end on a strong note without the pressure of a highly publicized cult classic finale. Be emotionally prepared because they all do end.

Getting On, a adaptation of the UK series by HBO, it has an ensemble cast with Metcalfe, Borstein, and Nash. The show has this raw sense of humor where you think the plot is taking a turn for a more serious moment and the writers pull you back in. This clip is a MUST WATCH

Baskets on FX has a tone and art direction so experimental and risk taking, I don’t see often in comedies. Zach Galifinakis plays dual characters with his signature deadpan comedy that always seems to amaze me. I love the resilience of each character and how much heart the show carries is admirable.

Party Down, it’s surprising how many stars show up in this series, I love any premise in Hollywood but where the real stories happen. In this case, the cater waiters is where they see the real Hollywood bullshit go down, they don’t experience any of the glamour just the cringe of working for rich pricks.

Crashing, another inside look of what it’s like behind and around show business, particularly in the comedy scene. Pete Holmes finds himself in a situation where he loses all sense of self, and he focuses more seriously on his comedic career. It’s such a funny show with great cameos, it will make you want to start a new life pursuing a comedy career.

Difficult People, a pair of best friends who are fame hungry but have no sense of luck or the powers of persuasion to get their name out. It follows them navigating through New York City with the don’t give a fuck attitude every New Yorker assimilates to.

Vice Principals, is one of those series that takes you back to high school, but have you ever wondered what the faculty’s personal lives were like. The premise of a public high school is genius, frenemies are in an alliance to fight for the title of principal. It goes darker than you expect but the tone of the show balances out the ridiculous antics.

ALONE TOGETHER GIF.gif

Alone Together, two Millennials have a platonic friendship, their friendship is about how they are extremely not sexually attracted to each other at all. Esther plays a fictional version of herself trying to be a hot girl in Los Angeles. Benji is juxtaposed next his more conventionally attractive and successful brother and sister.
